Ponta de Pedras - Geografia/localização- a leste da Ilha do marajó, na microregião dos campos, limitando-se ao norte com o município de Santa Cruz do Arari; ao sul com o rio Pará; a leste com o municipio de Cachoeira do Arari e baia do marajó; a oeste como o municipio de Muaná e Anajás está a 44km de Belem. Clima e vegetação- equatorial superúmido, com temperatura média anual em torno de 33 graus C. o periodo mais chuvoso ocorre entre os meses de fevereiro e abril, Ponta de Pedras as margens do rio Marajó-Açu, possui vegetação diversificada com mata de igapó várzea campos naturais etc. sua Área é de 2.884km2 população urbana estimada em 10.351, rural em 12.054; total 22.405 habitantes estimados. História/ Foi fundado sob a categoria de freguesia em 1737, sob a invocação de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, padroeira do lugar, denominado na época de Mangabeira. Em 17 de maio de 1833, seu território foi anexado ao de Cachoeira do Arari, permanecendo nessa situação até 1877, quando em 18 de abril a Lei 886, elevou-o a categoria de Vila e o seu território em município. Após a revolução de 30 Magalhães Barata extingue os municípios de Ponta de Pedras e Cachoeira, criando um novo, denominado Itaguary, sendo restabelecida sua municipalidade em 31 de dezembro de 1938 sua denominaçãoatual deu em virtude da topografia local.
