Geografia - Localização No Oeste do arquipelago do Marajó, banhado pelo rio Amazonas, limitando-se ao Norte com o Estado do Amapá; a Leste com os municípios de Breves,Melgaço eAfuá; ao Sul com Melgaço e, a Oeste com os municípios almerinr e porto de Móz. está a 353km em linha reta de Belém. Clima - equatorial superúmido.Possui em sua vegetação grandes variedades de árvores usadas na fabricação de móveis, como a ucuuba, andiroba, maçaranduba e outras ,situa-se em uma área estratégica, permite acesso via fluvial a todas as cidades do baixo amazonas, inclusive a regiãodo rio xingú. sua Área 9.221km2 população urbana 7.208; rural 18.618 total de 25.826, estimado. História As terras que correspondem ao município de Gurupá foram inicialmente habitadas pelos Índios mariocay, da nação tupinanbá. O holandeses foram os primeiros a se intalarem no município. onde levantaram o forte Mariocay, a margem direita do rio Amazonas. com a chegada dos Portugueses na região e a tomada de posse da terra, o forte foi destruído em 1823 o capitão Bento Manoel Parente construiu no mesmo local outro forte denominado de Santo Antonio de Gurupá. Alcançou a condição de vila em 1839, elevando-se a categoria de cidade em 11 de novembro de 1885 através da lei nº 1209, na última Camara do regime monárquico. atualmente o município é constituido pela sede e os distritos de, Carrazedo e Itatupã.
