History

Afuá has provided Town, by Decree No. 170, Decree No. 226 of November 28, 1890, created the county of Afuá and the Lwei 403, of May 2, 1896, the municipality was elevated to City. Currently, constituting itself the headquarters of the district and the Village of Baturité.

A região que hoje corresponde ao município de Afuá alojava um sítio de propriedade da senhora Michaela Arcângela Ferreira, com a construção da Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, muitas pessoas se instalaram em volta da mesma, até que em 2 de outubro de 1889, o local recebeu a categoria de freguesia através da Lei nº 1.386 em 02 de agosto de 1890. Afuá passou a condição de Vila, através do decreto nº 170, o Decreto nº 226, de 28 de novembro de 1890, criou a comarca de Afuá e com a Lwei 403, de 2 de maio de 1896, o referido município foi elevado à categoria de Cidade. Atualmente, contitui-se da sede e do distrito da Vila de Baturité.
